Below you will find pictures and information on families who adopt our wonderful rescue companions.

We are lucky, so is Leo. We have each other now. All thanks to Diane and the kind hearts at NCRR. Our oldest Rottie had been diagnosed with bone cancer and we thought we'd be losing him. With heavy hearts, we started looking for a rescue. We knew there was nothing more we could do but be grateful for whatever time we had left with our baby, and be sure he wasn't in pain. The only good to come out of this was that we might be able to give another Rottie a decent, loving home. We found Diane, and started conversing via email. As soon as we were ready, we contacted Diane to make plans to drive down. We had turned in our adoption forms and given her time to check us out of course. I'm so glad she called our vets! It's good to know that these dogs don't go to just anyone. We brought the whole family, so our two footed child and our "old boy" could meet the new sibling and make sure everyone got along. They did. We brought Leo home. that night. Leo is exactly as he was described on the web site. He's gentle, not assertive and just the sweetest boy! He's gained 30 lbs since coming to live with us. He apparently didn't like to eat with all the other dogs around. He must have been loved by someone once, he was housebroken in less than 48 hours. And learned or relearned sit, down and come in just days. He did want to eat our cat when he got here. Firm guidance and bitter apple have taught him that's not acceptable. He actually PLAYS with the cat now and he's only been here 7 months. It was really a short time before he understood cats are our friends. Diane and I stay in touch by email, and I tell her about Leo's life now. He's settled in, but every once in awhile comes over out of the blue, puts a paw on one of us and fixes us in a stare with those big brown eyes. If you understand Rottie-speak, you can hear him... "Thank you so much for giving me a forever home, I'd given up on people and you showed me that you care... I love you too" I'm not crazy, really. We have also had Rotties not from rescue, since they were puppies, and they are very loyal and loving too, but there is truely a gratitude in a rescue dog. They KNOW you saved them, and are grateful. The ones I've raised since pups, just believe they deserve all the loving comfort they get everyday, they know nothing else. Rescued dogs have known something else. Sometimes the worst treatment you could ever imagine. Leo doesn't worry anymore, and neither will the one you give a forever home. Sincerely, David and Lara Hardway

MAX, MOLLIE, AUSTIN, CAMERON

On day I felt like taking a ride to the Animal Shelter just to have a good cry. Looking at all of the dogs there just makes my heart ache. I was walking down the aisle and saw two very dark brown eyes following me. I stopped and backtracked. The eyes still followed. I knelt down and the head dropped down to follow me. I put the back side of my hand up against the cage just to make sure i didn't lose any fingers and I felt a very warm and soft tongue lick my hand. I fell in love. It was a female Rottweiler, of all dogs. One of the most feared breeds (HA!). I then proceeded to find a leash so I could spend some time with her. She leaned on me and gave me kisses all over, she didn't want me to leave. Later that day, I brought my kids and Boston Terrier, Cody, to meet this little girl who had no name yet. They all got along famously. I then filled out an application and was approved. The next day i brought her to see her new home. Everyone that came to my house instantly fell in love with our little girl. I named her the Unsinkable Molly Brown, molly for short. After realizing what a wonderful dog she was, i started making phone calls to see if there were a rescue in town. I found Diane Sacripanti's e-mail address on a Rottweiler website. After many, many em-mails back and forth explaining to Diane that I wanted to help the rescue in some way, Diane and I finally met. I told her that I would be interested in fostering. She brought two dogs over to my house to see whichone would fit into our situation the best, having three kids (one under four years old), two dogs and four cats. She brought in max. This HUGE goofy guy walked ito my house, knockig things over, peeing, again it was love at first sight. he was so loving to my three year old, got along fine with Cody, and I think he had a crush on Molly. We decided Max was the one for our family to foster until he found a loving, forever home. Each day max would do something just to make you laugh. he is our clown. Two months went by and I called up Diane and told her that I can't let him go. I had gone through two months of heartworm treatment with Max, working so hart to keep him calm and quiet, I didn't want anyone else to reap the benefits. Max has just become one of the family. He's ours now and we'll never let him go. He goes out in the backyard with Cody and Molly running, playing, jumping and just being his goofy self. My neighbors come over all the time just to give my guys hugs and pets. These guys are a wonderful and misunderstood breed. I suggest to everyone to adopt a rescue, they need homes too. Not just puppies. Our family seems so complete with our addition of Max. I now have a friend who's going to foster and another friend who might adopt in June or July. If you can find it in your hearts to help out the Rescue, please, pleas do. it couldn't exist without your donatios of time and money. Thank you to everyone who has contibuted. MAX

Monday, August 13, 2001 I was first introduced to a Rottweiler three years ago. Her name is Sasha. She is a huge, loving and gentle German Rott. The first time we met, I was intimidated but I soon got over all my fears as she snuggled with me and put her large head under my hand so I could pet her. I fell in love with this gentle giant. I began to research and find out as much information as possible about these dogs. I decided I wanted to give Rottweiler ownership a try. I went to Yahoo and typed in Rottweiler, and several columns of interest came up. I stumbled upon several resscue organizations. I was looking to adopt a puppy but I began to look at the pictures of the various dogs available. Max at North Carolina Rottweiler Rescue caught my eye. He was proud and seemed to be sitting there just waiting for me. The header said that he was a house dog and he hated being in a kennel. That was my kind of dog. I knew we would connect. The bonus was that he was housebroken and leash trained. I became more excited! I contacted Diane. After several emails, phone calls, application and reference check, I could finally meet Max. On Saturday, August 11, 2001, I drove to Raleigh (from Washington, DC) and we were introduced. The introduction was a little scary. Max wasn't thrilled to meet me at first. With Diane's help, I began to talk to him and give him basic commands. He slowly began to respond. After a couple of hours Max and I were friends. We went for our first car ride. That ride was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. (Max loves rides) I loaded him up and we came home. He slept most of the way (from NC to Washington DC). He would wake up, give me a kiss, and go back to sleep. Max has adjusted well. He is happy being around people and quietly watching everything going on. He is very loyal and protective. However, he is a little agressive when it comes to meeting other dogs. We have to work on that. (smile) Diane and his previous owner have called to check on him to make sure evreything is okay. They have been with me every step of the way and have given me lots of assistance. I've never felt alone in this process. I was concerned about being a single woman and adopting a full grown rottweiler. Now, I am so happy I did. I couldn't have made a better choice. Thank you Diane and North Carolina Rottweiler Rescue. SMILIN SAM-NEW ADDITION TO THE FAMILY OF DAVID AND LARA HARDWAY

Jackson (Chip) and His Wonderful Person, Sarah,

I had been looking for a long time for a Rottweiler. But I didn't want a puppy. I wanted an older dog that needed and deserved a good home but that had also been well taken care of before I was to adopt him. Looking online, I found only one place that I believed would know and cater to the needs of a Rottweiler and that was North Carolina Rottweiler Rescue. I browsed the pictures and blurbs about each of the dogs and finally came across one whhere the dog hardly fit into the photo-he was so big! So I immediately called and scheduled a time to drop by the next open house to visit him. The Rescue was well kept for the amount of dogs there and all the dogs seemed happy and were easily approachable-no mean ones here. I met the dog I had seen online and I knew I had to have him. I wasn't worried about adopting a dog from there if only because Diane was so excited to see that the dog was going to have a forever home. She had really taken care of and cared for the Rotties there and because of that, my Jackson is geting along well now in our house with my 3 roommates, 2 other dogs, and a cat. He loves it and I couldn't be any happier with him.

Shelby (middle) and her Foster Mom, Francine.

CEDAR GROVE SCHOOL OF GREEN ACRES-August 25, 2001

This is to officially notify you that "Francine's Jewel", of "Sacripanti County" otherwise known as "Shelby" has been adopted and is now enjoying a good life as Shelby Haynie. She resides in Cedar Grove, NC with her new brothers, Woody (Golden Retriever) and Cody (Godlen Retriever) and a feline sister, Tripawd (3-legged domestic cat). Her mom and dad, Keith and carol, are amazed at Shelby's personality,. curiosity and spunk. This report is for the first week of home life among new surroundings, people, activities, and siblings. Ad good as it has been, we assume life can only get better from here. Shelby has learned so much, like how loud she can bark when she really wants to play. Woody taught her that. Ok, so now he is second-guessing that decision. Playing one-way chase with Tripawd is a game that Shelby doesn't quite undersand yet. She hopes she can find a new way to express her fondness for kitty soon. That neat hole in the door with the flap (pet door) is real handy when Shelby needs to go out for private time or just check the weather. It is also nice when mom or dad try to trick her into staying in or out. Shelby just runs around and before you know it she is right at their feet again. (sigh) While shelby is still on her heartworm treatments she is not able to do a lot of activities, so she anxiously awaits the coming months when she can go hike and explore the new world around Orange county. Shelby enjoys chasing the squirrels away from the bird feeder in the yard and is puzzled by all the buzzing of the hummingbirds at the deck. She also watches and listens for the deer that meander through the woods next to her yard without posing a threat to them. Any areas that Shelby has not been stellar at wrill only be enhanced when she attends Basic Obedience classes starting in September. She will surely be a quick and eager learner.
